MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING MANAGER

Currently, Tsubaki has an excellent opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager in our Holyoke, Massachusetts location.  The Manufacturing Engineering Manager manages the department and provides direction to direct reports in a manner that ensures all safety, quality, delivery, and cost (efficiency and continuous improvement) objectives are achieved. Responsible for budget controls, tooling design and implementation, in a manner that supports and benefits production output.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages all resources in a harmonious manner that promotes and cultivates an atmosphere that emphasizes teamwork, respect, accountability, and a desire to improve all Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost objectives.
  • Ensures all Safety standards, process and procedures are followed, work directly with Safety Compliance Manager as needed to improve existing program/procedures to ensure all Safety objectives are regularly exceeded.
  • Ensures all Quality standards, process and procedures are followed, works directly with Quality and Engineering Departments as needed to improve existing program/procedures to ensure all Quality objectives are regularly exceeded.
  • Ensures a minimum of 95% on-time delivery to all external customers and continuously improves internal customer delivery.
  • Has the responsibility of establishing daily/weekly/monthly project schedules and is responsible for ensuring timelines are achieved and communicated accordingly.
  • Meets and exceeds planned productivity improvements by increasing the “added value” per person. Monitors manpower and training plans to maintain area targets. Supports PM plans to minimize equipment downtime and improve cycle times.
  • Establishes environment of Continuous Improvement to eliminate problems and reduce costs. Training, teamwork and communication are keys.
  • Ensures compliance and consistency with all factory rules, regulations, and collective bargaining agreement. Supports system of progressive discipline and develops consistency among supervisory ranks. Works to develop progressive approach to union related issues.
  • Develops and coaches subordinates in a manner that improves overall plant improvements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Ten years of experience in precision manufacturing, preferably metal related.
  • Knowledge of work standards, quality standards, and disciplines required for world class quality and productivity.
  • Basic motion and time study background to evaluate shop methods and cycle times.
  • ISO 9001/14,0000 experience.
  • Experience with JIT production system and efficient material flow. Familiar with daily schedule and productivity disciplines.
  • “Hands On” experience with formal Continuous Improvement efforts in team setting.
  • Understanding of standard costing and budgeting. Experience with formal cost reduction programs.

  • Ability to plan and analyze manpower requirements to efficiently meet production schedules.

PRODUCT ENGINEER

Currently, Tsubaki has an excellent opportunity for a Product Engineer in our Holyoke, Massachusetts location.  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design roller chain components, assemblies, and accessories in solid modelling or equivalent software using established industry GD&T principles.
  • Perform product-related contract review on new customer orders and product configurations.
  • Define performance criteria for roller chain designs, including key properties such as dimensions, materials, hardness, etc.
  • Generate component and assembly manufacturing routings.
  • Evaluate existing roller chain product for quality, performance, and cost improvement.  Facilitate engineering changes to support improvements, and train employees as needed.
  • Write and maintain specifications for the various roller chain product lines, and control per the ISO 9001 QMS requirements.
  • Write and facilitate qualification plans for new product designs and adaptations to ensure that planned changes meet their intended acceptance criteria.  Include, as necessary, statistical methods and design of experiments methodology.
  • Provide technical support to both external customers (salesmen, distributors, end-users) and internal customers (production, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, planning)
  • Provide product engineering training for a variety of audiences including employees, customers, and sales.
  • Lead or support internal improvement projects.  Continuously improve the operation.
  • Participate in quality and safety audits to ensure conformity to ISO and OSHA regulations.  
  • Facilitate Design Review meetings with manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and production departments.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of math skills as they apply to tooling design and machining process. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

QUALITY ASSURANCE SUPERVISOR

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervision, coaching, training, and support of departmental engineers and inspectors in a manner that ensures that all safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and labor utilization goals are achieved.
  • Lead or directly support corrective actions and quality improvement teams with root cause analysis, innovative solutions, implementation planning, and more.
  • Effectively drive or support resolution to quality issues, as necessary, to ensure that customers are satisfied with quality product delivered on time.
  • Manage expense and capital budget for the quality lab to support testing, research, and inspection including fatigue, wear, tensile, material analysis, microanalysis, hardness, and more.
  • Manage the quality system to maintain effective utilization of systems including document control, gage control, nonconformances, internal audits, corrective actions, etc.  Fulfill role of Management Representative for external ISO 9001 audits.
  • Manage and/or support the continuous improvement system within the facility, which consists of both team Kaizen events and individual contributions that enhance safety and quality and/or reduce delivery time and cost.
  • Uphold high ethical standards and consistently comply with all company policies, work rules, Union Contractual agreements, and applicable laws with little to no direct supervision.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Six Sigma/Black Belt preferred.
  • Five years of related work experience.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to comprehend and perform engineering-related mathematics and statistics.
  • Ability to perform problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to apply engineering-related mathematics, statistics, and analyses to formulate conclusions and recommendations to improve product and processes. 
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
